Funland 2001

Summer 2001 was my third summer working at Funland, and by far the best. I held the position of Park Supervisor and Dormitory Supervisor throughout the summer, as well as my restaurant jobs at Great American Bistro, Royal Treat and Gus & Gus Place.

One of my first duties as supervisor was to uphold the park's tradition of showing the Miss Delaware contenders around and operating the rides and games for them, along with fellow supervisor, Steve.

The photo below was taken that morning of myself and Steve with the seventeen young ladies, each hoping to be the one representing the state at the Miss America pageant, which I attended in September.

And here I am on Funland's annual Hat Day, when staff can wear a hat of their choice and many try and find the strangest hats in town. I wore a pink flamingo on my head the previous year.

The two friends either side of me were from San Diego, California and requested a photo. With it being hat day, I had my camera with me as well.

Here are the girls on the starting grid of the 2001 Funland Bumper Car Grand Prix!

Mallory was one of the local teenagers working at Funland that summer, looking great as she poses with me here.

Sam, Julie, Sasha, Ian and Jorge riding the Sea Dragon on their night off.

Here's Tomáš hard at work manning the Frog Bog - what had he done to deserve it this time, I wonder?

Leanne is operating Fire Trucks and Maria on Sky Fighter this quiet afternoon on Kiddie Row. The great weather means everyone's on the beach. It also means everyone will be here in the evening, the rides at their full capacities, the buzzers and bells at their loudest, the lights at their brightest, and some people's patience at it's lowest!

Jorge's in charge of Goblet Toss and Peter is behind him at the Redemption Center in this photo.

While Peter was one of many workers at the beach from Slovakia and the rest of Eastern Europe this summer, Jorge was the only one from Colombia.

Below, Ian is distracted as he operates Kentucky Derby when Lyndsay and Natalie stop for a chat.

Gemma, myself and Evette. They were Scotland's representation at Funland in 2001.

Krystle's another that's Delaware born and bred, and great looking to!

Sunset at Funland.

The rides shown are Chaos, Sea Dragon, Paratrooper and Helicopters.

Right: Mike, Shukri and a couple of (Russian?) girls relax on a quiet afternoon at the boardwalk games.

Left: I have to pick-up Kelli so she can see over the Skatter Ball games. She's another local who works as a game attendant over the summer school holiday.
