Wales' Red Dragon
Around Chiang Mai

The first few photos are of my visit to one of the north's most sacred temples, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, located on a mountain above Chiang Mai.

There are also photos from a silk factory, orchid and butterfly farm, and a couple of views from the bus!

1 of 13 - Naga Staircase

300 steps need to be ascended to get to the wat (well, there's actually a tram or lift of some kind, but the steps don't take much effort and can be quicker).

2 of 13 - Bells

I forgot why, but people ring all of these bells.

3 of 13 - Candles

The same people also light these candles, but not for the same reason as they ring the bells. I think.

4 of 13 - Buddha

There are specific reasons behind the bell-ringing and candle-lighting, but basically, it's all because of Buddha.

5 of 13 - Chedi (Stupa)

If I've got it right, this pays tribute to the enduring stability of Buddhism. (That's what my Lonely Planet guide said.)

6 of 13 - Australians

I should write down the names of everyone I photograph!

The girl's is Elizabeth, the father's is on the tip of my tongue and the mother will have to forgive me for having completely forgot her's.

I'm sure they'll be in touch to let me know (Please!).

7 of 13 - Silk Worms
