Nightlife

The IP (International Pub)

I didn't find the IP virgin until a couple of months into my time in Changwon and was then there almost every Friday and Saturday for months, as it was the only "real" "western bar" in the city.

That was back in the days when there was little alternative in terms of a western-style bar in Changwon.

These first few photos were taken at Chuseok, Korea's autumn thanksgiving holiday.

In this one, Soon-young, our host at the IP, and Mina are dressed in their Hanbok for the occasion.

John and Cilla
- propping-up bars all over the world.

Rick and Jason.Ali and Sabine.

This one of me was taken back in the winter.

Thanks to Jen for capturing this moment and giving me the photo.

I was in a pretty bad state after drinking with these Russian guys.

So I guess the photo below must have been taken quite early in the evening.

There's myself and a Russian girl not looking her best, and Cilla getting the attention of the men.

The Monkey House

This bar is across the hallway from O'Briens and in an effort to compete for business, it used to hold a knock-out pool contest Friday nights with a cash prize for the winner.

(The bar has since changed ownership, increased it's prices and become less popular among expats.)

Here's Bill at the table...

...and (then) bartender, Jackie.

Here, Michael looks surprisingly content, considering there's not a cigar in sight!

Ray and Sabine.

What a double act!

Forget his and hers matching bathrobes and watches or the couple rings popular here in Korea, it's trendy foot-supports that every serious couple should be wearing.

Here's myself enjoying a Hite.

Jackie and me.

(Where are the other lovely ladies who work(ed) there?)
