I have lots more photos of the island, but they've yet to be processed, so, for now, I'm putting photos from everywhere on the same page.
One of, if not, the island's main attraction is the Petrified Forest in the western part. (I've included a link, but it's easy to find other
sites).
Basically, about 20 million years ago, the area was flooded with lava and the trees were petrified; wood molecules
replaced individually by those of solid stone.
This view is over the town of Sigri on the far western part of Lesvos, where the Natural History Museum of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos is located. It has further petrified trunks in nearby grounds.
This is a view of land between Sigri and Eressos, a town on the western coast, known for being the birthplace of Sapho.
The capital of Lesvos is Mytilini. Here is a photo of a ship coming into port.
Below is a panoramic of the city, with the ship approaching from the south to dock on the eastern side of the city
(imagine the view is curling 240 degrees around you).
