The Hotels

Rinela Beach Hotel, Kokkini Hani

I worked mostly at this hotel and it was the closest to my apartment, so it is the one I was most familiar with of the three.

It is an all-inclusive hotel, part of the Mitsis group, and has a fun and lively atmosphere created by it's animation team which encourages all of the guests to get involved in a variety of activities, from "Aqua Aerobics" to nightly shows in the hotel's theater.

The guests come from all over Europe, from Ireland to Russia, but are predominantly French, Geman and Italian.

This photo of Rinela Beach was taken as I went parasailing. Let the water sports take you parasailing for great views over the whole village of Kokkini Hani.

These are Nikos and Michalis working at the beach bar, though they can be found behind any of the hotel's five bars which, of course, provide all refreshments at no charge to hotel guests (and water sports staff).

This is a view over the hotel pool and the Cretan Sea. It is a bright and sunny morning and the island of Dia can be seen in the distance.

Club Creta Sun, Kato Gouves

Creta Sun is also an all-inclusive hotel and is located in the village of Kato Gouves.

The photo is a view of the hotel. Once again, it is taken by myself as I demonstrate how easy, fun and safe it is parasailing high above the clear sea.

I usually only came to Creta Sun at the end of the day to help with the last few activities and bring everything out of the water and close up.

I was therefore much less familiar with the hotel and its staff but my impression was that it is nicer and has more facilities than Rinela Beach.

However, I much prefered Rinela Beach.

On the few summer days when high winds made sea conditions unsuitable for water sports I would often sit (alone) on the beach at Creta Sun for the purpose of providing information to guests.

This photo was taken on such a day.

Serita Beach,

I have only this postcard photo of Serita Beach as I only worked there a week.

The photo is quite deceiving as a road now runs in front of that white wall and there is room for only a single row of umbrellas along the most part.

This is due not only to the road that was built, but that the water is shallow, the bed rocky and the current such that tons of seaweed piles up on the beach.

Such conditions make it impossible for powered watercraft to come close to the shore and so only windsurfing, canoeing and pedaloes can be launched from the beach here.

Guests must travel to take advantage of other water sports.

The hotel is as nice as it looks and has two pools and other amenities similar to those of Rinela Beach as they are part of the same hotel group (Mitsis).
